HOW TO CHOOSE
AN NLP TRAINING COURSE
6 key questions you need to ask:
Choosing an NLP training provider can be a challenging experience. It is also a very important choice since you are likely to only attend one NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner training course in your life!
As an NLP training provider NLP Australasia does not claim to be un-biased however,
we have assembled some information to help you make the right choice for yourself.
NLP IN AUSTRALIA
Here in Australia there is a huge selection of NLP course providers so, as a first step, you may wish to narrow your search by checking out if they are offering the full syllabus trainings.
Look for trainers and training institutes that are committed to providing the thorough full-length, full-syllabus trainings. For example, 120 hour Practitioner Certification training program.
Having said that though… even with the credentials… not all NLP trainers are created equal, just as there are good dentists, teachers, lawyers, cleaners, managers etc… there are also bad ones. Same goes for NLP Trainers too. So do your due diligence and ask for references and reviews from people who have done the trainings.
SIX KEY QUESTIONS
Since taking part in an NLP Certification course is a serious investment of your time, your money and your expectations we recommend you consider the following questions when making your choice:
The original requirement for a Practitioner Certification Program was 18-20 days or 120 hours of attendance at a workshop and with a Certified NLP Trainer in attendance. You will find a full range of offerings from the original 18 to 20 days to the ‘fast track’ courses offered over just one weekend.
However, with technology being what it is, it is now possible to 'deliver' NLP in such a way that meets the 120 hour requirement, with less down time. There are ‘accelerated learning’ training courses, of which we are one, where there is extensive pre-training study, CD’s/mp3’s to listen to, questions to complete before attending the course. Not only are you meeting the requirement of completing 120 hours, by completing the pre-training study and coming along to the face to face training but more importantly the comprehensive pre-training assures that you have a similar level of understanding and knowledge as all the other participants when you arrive at the face to face training..
Our NLP Practitioner course is 7 days in duration, usually delivered as two modules, a 4 day block followed by a 3 day block with a few months in between. The Master Practitioner Training is 10 days, delivered in two 5 day blocks.
We make no apologies for our comprehensive trainings, we feel that anything less, would be a real stretch to deliver the content and have a fully interactive training where participants have the opportunity (a lot) to put all the techniques and learning into action.
Coupled with an unparalleled comprehensive Pre-Training study kit, that is accompanied by a questionnaire, that must be completed, the training is thorough and rewarding, and you know that nothing has been left out.
We take the responsibility of NLP training seriously, and want only the best outcomes for our students and participants. Whether that be a Certification training or training NLP for Business, Education or Sport, NLP is a powerful skill and we train with the highest degree of integrity.
This is an important question if your outcome is NLP skill. In some trainings you can be part of a group of anywhere from 50 to 100's. Usually such trainings get around the need for hands-on coaching and feedback by having 'crew'. However such assistants will frequently be previous participants (rather than skilled trainers) who are coming back for more free training in return for marshaling the crowd.
Here at NLP Australasia we have training assistants who are at least Certified Master Practitioners or NLP Trainers and, since our group maximum is 8-16 you always have access to the course trainer.
As a member of the ABNLP (Australian Board of NLP), members of all levels are required to have a minimum of 20 hours of ongoing training, professional development and supervision each year. NLP Trainers even more.
This ensures that your own trainings have depth and quality. We believe that an effective trainer will have many times more knowledge, experience and material than they actually have time to teach - this ensures that their work has depth and they have practical experience to draw upon in answering questions from participants.
We recommend that you be quite thorough in assessing who you will choose as your training provider. Ask questions about the course trainer(s) such as:
-
How long have they been actively involved in NLP?
-
When did they receive certification as a Practitioner and as a Master Practitioner of NLP? And more importantly as a NLP Trainer (Make sure they have those 3 levels of certification)
-
Who did they do they do Practitioner Training with and was it a 120 hour full-syllabus program?
-
When did they receive certification as a Trainer of NLP?
-
Have they had a life other than NLP? What life experiences have they had?
-
Are they experienced in the fields in which you are interested?
-
Are they and have they been successful in their own right, in their fields of endeavor?
Attending an NLP training that is presented by just one person, is limiting for you the student. It will not provide you with the breadth and depth of NLP experience, insight and skill that you will get from having two or more trainers in the room. NLP is very subjective, so to have different styles of training and teaching, variety and view points, keeps you engaged, interested and entertained.
NLP Trainings are an investment - they represent a quite significant investment of your time and of money.
Training providers who believe in the quality of their courses will guarantee them and allow you a day or two to gauge whether or not you have selected the right training for you.
We hope these questions and guidelines are helpful to you, choosing the ‘right’ NLP course for you, we also hope that you have gained a little insight into our own ethics around NLP training and what we stand for.

“The training helped me reevaluate and reprioritize my life. I’ve spent literally thousands of dollars over the years on personal and professional development courses and programs, and have hundreds of books and CD’s on the topic... but participating in an intimate small group training like this, where you are immersed in the learning, held accountable by your peers and where you can immediately implement and use the skills you have just learned... is when the major growth occurs. Don’t miss this opportunity. Get in the room with Nat & Sandra, and take your life from where it is now to where you want it to be.”
